Hyde Park Village Green
The Hyde Park Village Green is located just off Hyde Park Road and is situated in between residential and commercially zoned lands.
The lands were originally zoned as environmental space, with nothing more than field grass and ponds. In 2018, the HPBIA in collaboration with the City of London worked to get the space re-zoned for public use. The HPBIA has formally ‘adopted’ the park and the pond.
Events hosted by the BIA primarily take place in “Hyde Park Village Green,” as the park was created as a spot for the community to host community activations and events that better the community.
In 2021, the City of London was approved for a grant of $500,000 through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund. This grant was introduced to help communities across Canada build and improve community infrastructure projects so they can rebound from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through the grant, and additional monetary support from the City of London, the Hyde Park BIA, and Oxford Dodge Chrysler, the Hyde Park Village Green underwent major upgrades totaling $800,000 in 2022-2023.
Hyde Park Village Green, located at 1695 Hyde Park Rd, will be upgraded to an urban park that can better support local community events, as well as area residents. This has been requested for many years by the Hyde Park BIA, local businesses and individuals.
Following the City’s survey in March 2022, a detailed concept plan has been prepared for the Hyde Park Village Green project. Proposed improvements, in this first phase of work, include a new plaza space that can be used for events, enhanced pathways throughout the park, an inclusivity garden, landscaped entrances, site furniture and more trees.
The plan also shows future elements that can be completed in a second phase of work or as funding becomes available. These include a new play area, outdoor musical instruments, a wood deck, a community table, and lighting.
