2018: A Year in ReviewWhat a busy few months in an even busier year it has been for us at the BIA! November and December have seen countless events and activities happen, including many festive community events, so we thought it was time for an update!
The end of November saw us host our first AGM as an official BIA and it was certainly a great time for us to look back at the year as we examine the goals and initiatives we set in 2017 against our progress, and what progress we have made! Between adopting a park, a pond, helping finally get the traffic light a ‘green light’ at South Carriage Road and of course, supporting our businesses, it has been very busy first year as a BIA. Members in attendance of the AGM enjoyed a delicious meal from Four Seasons Restaurant right here in Hyde Park, and heard some inspirational words from IMPACT Speaker and London native, Andy Thibodeau. He provided insight to businesses about building accountability in employees and their business and proved to be an intriguing speaker for all in attendance!
Just a few days after the AGM, the BIA took part once again in the 10th annual Hyde Park Santa Claus Parade. This year’s theme was ‘For the Love of Music’ and we were happy to be able to put our Outdoor Piano on the float and enjoy the sounds of local group Coming Up Roses, who also performed earlier in the year at Pond Fest! We were so honored to hear that we won best themed float at the parade this year and were glad the Piano got one last hurrah in Hyde Park before the winter! We hope this can become yearly tradition for the Outdoor Piano!
Another tradition that we have started this year is working with the Hyde Park Lions Club and one of our businesses, Oxford Dodge, to host a free Breakfast with Santa event. This year, we had Sarah Smith perform some of her wonderful Christmas music, as well as had Cooking Matters provide delicious pancakes and fruit to Hyde Park families. Santa and Mrs. Claus were present to take selfies and hear all about everyone’s Christmas wishes! Behind the Bit Equestrian Centre brought their beautiful “reindeer” ponies for the kids to enjoy a ride on around the Oxford Dodge property. Not only did we have a wonderful event for Hyde Park families in attendance, we also collected tons of warm winter clothes, boots, non-perishable food items, and toys for those in need in our community through the North West London Emergency Food Cupboard and the Limberlost Chaplaincy. Next year, we hope to collect even more donations, as well as host a vendor village for our businesses to sell their products or provide information about their services.
As we look ahead to 2019, we know it will be an even more amazing year, as we build on the achievements, we have been able to make possible with our business’ help! We have our second annual Pond Fest in the works already, planned for June 8th, 2019, as well as the continuation of our networking events on a revised schedule so more members may attend. Community improvements, such as overseeing the implementation of the traffic light, will continue to be a priority, as well as attracting new business to the area. With these plans in mind, we wanted to say thank-you for being a part of our 2018, and hope however you were a part of the Hyde Park BIA community this year, you continue to be a part of it in 2019! Enjoy a look back at the previous year & we hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
All the Best,
The Hyde Park BIA team
